Apply for a 2027 UTO Grant
Beginning in August 2026
We are the Gifts of God
for the People of God.
The 2027 Process will accept innovative and imaginative projects which are rooted in their communities with a distinctively local response.
The UTO Board was inspired by Robin Wall Kimmerer's book: "The Serviceberry" and the liturgy for the Holy Eucharist in the creation of the 2027 focus which asks churches, dioceses, and provinces to dream about what "connecting the unique gifts of the church/diocese/province with the unique needs of the community" around them might look like. We hope to see applications for projects that are specific to the place the applicant is located, as well as projects that will generate something that can be shared back to the community beyond.
What to Apply in 2027?
Start Here.
Thanks to the feedback from applicants and some changes in international banking policies, the UTO Board has updated the Grant Application Process for 2027. While it may appear daunting, we think this process will increase support to applicants, increase participation by dioceses, and help applicants who do not fit the focus and criteria earlier in the process discern next steps.

General Tools to Help You Along the Way...
We know that sometimes you need a little help finding your way through a grant process. We’ve included an “Overview & Checklist” for each step of the process, but in this section, you’ll find some basic information to help you.
- Grant Focus and Criteria – please read this carefully as it will tell you what is allowed and what is not allowed for consideration for UTO funding.
- Office Hours – applicants can sign up for one 30 minute zoom session at a time to get one-on-one support during the grant process.
First Deadline:
December 4, 2026
at 5p Eastern
This is our newest stage and our first deadline is split geographically:
- If you are inside the United States, this is the deadline to send the items below to your Bishop.
- If you are outside of the United States (even if you are in The Episcopal Church) please send your materials to the UTO Office using the button below.
At this deadline you are required to submit:
- The grant proposal form
- An Audit (from 2025 or 2024)
You can submit Spanish or English.
For those assisting applicants at the Diocesan level, we recommend filling out the Bishop’s Endorsement Form at this time and give it to the application to submit in January or February due to holiday schedules in December.
Second Deadline:
January 8, 2027
at 5p Eastern
The second deadline is like our first deadline from last year. Applicants must submit the required documents by this deadline to continue in the process.
You can (and should) submit draft documents for review, as you will have until the final deadline to complete your application process and help will be provided between the two deadlines. (Note: a draft has all of the questions answered and an attempt at a budget. Blank documents will not be accepted.
At this deadline you are required to submit:
- Draft Grant Proposal Form
- Draft Grant Application
- Draft Narrative Budget
- Bishop’s Endorsement Form (can be submitted now or at the next deadline)
This is an inflexible deadline so please be mindful of the date.
Final Deadline:
February 5, 2027
at 5p Eastern
The final deadline is when all completed documents are submitted. After this deadline, no changes, additions, or amendments will be accepted. All application rules must be met for the packet to be considered for funding.
At this deadline you are required to submit:
- Grant Proposal Form
- Grant Application
- Narrative Budget
- Bishop’s Endorsement Form with Signature (can be submitted with the previous deadline)
- Grant Processing Form
- Any Updated Audits or additional items (example: proposed bill of sale for a vehicle request)
Additional Funding Sources: Church Periodical Club Grants (Non-UTO Grants)
While these items cannot be included in your request for funding from UTO, you can request them from the Church Periodical Club (CPC). CPC was founded in 1888 to send materials to missionaries, clergy and congregations as the church expanded westward. The work of CPC is endowed and funded through donations from Episcopalians and friends of CPC who feel called to ensure that those who need materials can access them.
