Rainbow Asylum Ministry
LGBTQ+ asylum seekers are a particularly vulnerable population of migrants. EMM will work with congregations and other partners to provide targeted assistance to them. Lasting support for this ministry will be built through storytelling, mentorship, and the nurturing of an international network for mutual support.
“Approximately 30,000 asylum applicants base their claims on LGBTQ+ status in the U.S. annually. Thousands more are unaware of this option or arrive as refugees (~1,000). LGBTQ+ asylum seekers are a particularly vulnerable population of newcomers who often lack the community and family support that most migrants depend upon.
